Hamas says eight Israeli hostages set to be released are dead

It is aimed at winding down the deadliest and most destructive war ever fought between Israel and the Hamas militant group.

Israeli woman soldier Agam Berger, dressed in military fatigues, was paraded by Hamas militants on a stage in Jabalia in the northern Gaza Strip before being handed over to International Committee of the Red Cross officials.

Israel was expected to release another 110 Palestinian prisoners.

The ceasefire that took effect on January 19 hinges on the release of Israeli hostages taken during Hamas's October 7, 2023 attack, in exchange for 1,900 people -- mostly Palestinians -- being held in Israeli custody.
