After speaking with President Claudia Sheinbaum of Mexico, I have agreed that Mexico will not be required to pay Tariffs on anything that falls under the USMCA Agreement. This Agreement is until April 2nd,
That’s a big gap in a week - it’s beyond the margin of error,
I did this as an accommodation, and out of respect for, President Sheinbaum,
That includes autos, and the autos were the lead in getting this deal done, but also Canada and Mexico have done a good job offering us ever more work to prove to us that they are going to cut fentanyl deaths,
Our goal remains to get these tariffs, all tariffs removed,
It's a recognition of economic reality" that Trump walked back the 25 per cent tariff on Mexico after implementation
We agreed that our work and collaboration have yielded unprecedented results, within the framework of respect for our sovereignties."
Tariffs are about making America rich again and making America great again. There will be a little disturbance, but we're OK with that. It won't be much."
Thank you to President Sheinbaum for your hard work and cooperation!"
Mexico was treated with a lot of respect, and we reached this deal that benefits both nations,
We had an excellent and respectful call," that respected the "sovereignties" of both countries
The problem we've had is it's not clear what the American president wants,
We won't get through this, another psychodrama every 30 days,
I can confirm that we will continue to be in a trade war that was launched by the United States for the foreseeable future,
We will not be backing down from our response tariffs until such a time as the unjustified American tariffs [on] Canadian goods are lifted,
My expectation is the president will come to the agreement today, and hopefully we will announce this today, that U.S.M.C.A.-compliant goods will not have a tariff for the next month, until April 2,
I did this as an accommodation, and out of respect for, President Sheinbaum. Our relationship has been a very good one, and we are working hard, together, on the Border, both in terms of stopping Illegal Aliens from entering the United States and, likewise, stopping Fentanyl. Thank you to President Sheinbaum for your hard work and cooperation!"
Canada has done an enormous amount, they’ve offered us an enormous amount of work on fentanyl and so is Mexico,
That aligns with some of the conversations that we have been having with administration officials, but I'm going to wait for an official agreement to talk about Canadian response and look at the details of it,
So if you think about it this way, if you lived under Donald Trump's US-Mexico-Canada agreement, you will get a reprieve from these tariffs now. If you chose to go outside of that, you did so at your own risk, and today is when that reckoning comes,
