America’s great USMCA Trade Bill is looking good. It will be the best and most important trade deal ever made by the USA,
The USMCA is the largest, most significant, modern and balanced trade agreement in history,
We feel a high level of excitement and a sense of urgency to capture that opportunity for Canadians,
This is the most energy-literate incoming administration in the last 50 years,
Right now, the risk-adjusted returns and the certainty of timelines are better in the U.S.,
I fundamentally believe that this is temporary,
Secretary Lutnick agreed to officially meet with Premier Ford in Washington on Thursday, March 13 alongside the United States Trade Representative to discuss a renewed USMCA ahead of the April 2 reciprocal tariff deadline. In response, Ontario agreed to suspend its 25 per cent surcharge on exports of electricity to Michigan, New York and Minnesota."
I think about my own dad who immigrated through Ellis Island, New York. I mean, we are family, and this is unjust."
I think we both left understanding a little bit more of the perspectives of the other side, and I'm hopeful that he will be a voice for trying to find ways to de-escalate and eventually get these tariffs removed."
Minnesota cannot afford Trump's billionaire-run economy. We have to put a stop to this madness,
Pausing some tariffs, making last-minute exemptions — it won't cut it. We need to end the chaos once and for all. We need to sit down, work together and land a fair deal,
Because our Tariffs are reciprocal, we'll just get it all back on April 2."
Until then, Ontario will keep up the fight... That's why today we're moving forward with a 25 percent surcharge on electricity exports" to Minnesota, Michigan and New York
When we are talking about non-tariff retaliation, it could be about restricting supply, it could be putting our own export duties on products. It could be energy and minerals, it could be broader than that,
The only thing that makes sense is for Canada to become our cherished Fifty First State. This would make all Tariffs, and everything else, totally disappear. Canadians' taxes will be very substantially reduced, they will be more secure, militarily and otherwise, than ever before, there would no longer be a Northern Border problem, and the greatest and most powerful nation in the World will be bigger, better and stronger than ever — And Canada will be a big part of that."
I will shortly be declaring a National Emergency on Electricity within the threatened area,
If we end up subject to significant export tariffs from Canada, or they’re unwilling to send energy, that certainly impacts the reliability of the grid here,
We will never be able to trust the United States in the same way that we did three months ago,
Let's all get in a room and start negotiating that,
Ultimately, we think (tariffs and the trade war are) going to be long-term positive for the Canadian industry, because it will force them to look outside the U.S. and diversify their export markets into Asia,
